Christmas Songs

If there’s one thing you should know about me and my love for Christmas? It’s probably that I love Christmas music. So even though I already listed some seasonal music two years ago. And even though I gushed about even more holiday songs last year. And even though I already talked about some Dutch Christmas songs just last week? You guessed it: here’s some more of my favourite Christmas songs! (and versions, of course)

1. The Light of Christmas Morn, Celtic Woman

You know how last year I said that as soon as I’d finished the previous year’s list, I realised I should have added another song? Well, this song is this year’s edition of that. I don’t know why, but there’s just something about this song that really speaks to me. As the years go by, I find that more and more it’s the calmer Christmas songs that get me, and this is definitely a prime example of that!

2. Silent Night, Mahalia Jackson

love this woman’s voice. The feeling that she manages to put into every. single. note? It’s absolutely incredible. In this version of Silent Night especially, she manages to calm all the December-business, put the message back to the front of the matter and just make my head quiet down a bit. A wonderful thing to do, right?

3. Silver Bells, Rosemary Clooney & Bing Crosby

The only thing possibly better than a Christmas song? A Christmas duet. And this one is pretty high up there with the best of them!

Admittedly, while I admire Crosby’s voice, it’s Rosemary Clooney’s timbre and the way her notes interact with that smooth honey of Bing Crosby’s voice that just makes me go… Yes.

And because the proof’s in the pudding: some more of Rosemary Cloone’s amazingness:

4. Blue Christmas, The Platters

This may seem like such a random one, especially after my saying how I love the calm Christmas songs. We had this huge random collection of Christmas-cd’s that we got for free with the coffee each year (yes, that’s an actual thing). This song was one of those, and it just always made me smile 🙂

5. Carol of the Bells, Celtic Woman

There’s some traditions in these Christmas Songs-posts, by now. And probably the main one? They start and end with a Celtic Woman-song. What can I say, I’m a sucker for gorgeous women with even more beautiful voices.

Or, you know – amazing violin-/fiddle-playing talents!

And there you have it, that’s 5 (more :p ) of my favourite Christmas songs for you! Be sure to let me know below what other songs you love – and I should listen to!
