2017 Book-Tube-Athon

So apparently Booktube-A-Thon is a thing? Now, sure, I’m not technically a booktuber. But hey: I do have a bookstagram? And a somewhat-bookblog? So guess what: I’m in. Because obviously I need to put more pressure on myself to read. Duh.

Booktube-A-Thon?

So what exactly is Booktube-A-Thon? Let the real deal explain that real quick:

For those who prefer the abbreviated version: a readathon from July 23 to July 30. 7 challenges, events happening on YouTube, Twitter and Instagram.

Now, for once, a readathon is actually taking place at a moment where I can participate. No exams, no deadlines, no job or internships. A lot of books I’ve been meaning to read for weeks, months or even years.  And a prime reason to read some more. Well, actually, that’s not entirely true. That timing-thing, I mean. I’ll be busy with a family-party the entirety of Sunday, so technically I’ll be trying to read 7 books in days. Yes, I know. I’m crazy.

As is mentioned in the video: their are daily Instagram ànd Youtube challenges which are announced only on the day itself. Naturally, I’m not going to be doing the Youtube challenges. Those Instagram challenges though? Here’s a confession: I’ve tried to do daily posts, challenges, monthly things on instagram about as long as I’ve had mine. I’ve failed miserably every. Single. Time. I might fail again this time. But yeah, I’m trying that. (You can laugh at me and say “I told you so” when I don’t even make the first day :p )

Reading Challenges

As for the reading challenges… I figured I’d go smart and start off this weeks TBR with books that answer to the 7 challenges that were set:

1. Read a book with a person on the coverThe last fight, The Chronicles of Narnia, C.S. Lewis: even if it’s a supposed god on the cover, that still counts right?

2. Read a hyped bookFantastic Beasts and where to find them, J.K. Rowling. I’ve had this one lying around, “meaning to read it”, since Christmas. This week, I’m reading it.

3. Finish a book in one dayArtemis Fowl, Eoin Colfer. I haven’t read this book in years, I think. And if I need to finish a book in one day, a reread is probably the way to go, I feel like. Right?

4. Read about a character that is very different from you: The Brothers Lionheart, Astrid Lindgren: here’s a confession: I’ve never actually completely read this book. Also. Me: girl, needing to find a job, alive. The main character: boy, child, dead. Is that sufficiently different?

5. Finish a book completely outdoors: Any book on my phone, really. Or on my e-reader, if I remember to take that one with me. It’s the only way I’ll get enough reading done outdoors. Maybe a novella from a Kate Perry-series, or something?

6. Read a book you got because of the coverBeatrix Potter’s Complete Tales, Beatrix Potter. I mean, my entire Reviewing the Classics on this one was just gushing about the artwork? Plus, I never did actually completely finish it. Again: perfect for this week!

7. Read seven books: with the 6 previous challenges, I need just one more. Considering that I’m apparently an idiot and the 5 books that are “set” combined already account for approximately 300 books? I’m just going to see what I actually get done. Maybe another reread? Some children’s books? Plenty of options, really 🙂 Then again, I do still have 9 French books to read if I want to get my goal of reading 10 French books this year. It might just be a good idea to get one of those out of the way.

And there you have it, that’s my TBR for this Booktube-A-Thon settled! I’m writing this on Sunday night, with a couple of hours left until the readathon actually begins. By the time I start reading, I have to decide for sure which books I’m including for those couple of open options i still have left. Be sure to check out my instagram for the final cut on the TBR, as well as for any updates! And of course: the Instagram challenges 🙂

Will you be participating in this year’s Booktube-A-Thon event? Any other technically-non-tubers out there? (I mean, I can’t be the only one, can I? Can I?) Be sure to let me know below, and leave your links to your TBR!
