September Book Haul

So, as the month of September is now officially over, I figured it was about time for my September book haul – and as I went on a little trip that involved ever so slightly too many bookstores, it’s going to be a long one. (Unfortunately, it may also be the only one until around Christmas, because my bank account is currently very much not happy with me).

Waterstones, Glasgow

  • Three Amazing Things About You, Jill Mansell: as a rule, I kind of like everything Jill Mansell writes, and this wasn’t an exception – luckily!
  • Five On A Treasure Island, Enid Blyton: I think I have, like, 4 versions of this one by now, but what can I say? I love her work – and I’m partially writing my master’s thesis about this one.
  • The Rosie Effect, Graeme Simsion: I bought the first part, The Rosie Project, in July, read it that same month, and absolutely loved it, so I have high hopes for this one – even if I haven’t gotten to it yet.
  • Hello, Goodbye, And Everything In Between; Jennifer E. Smith: I’d been wanting to buy this one for a while, but it just never seemed to work out – so I was really happy when I saw it in Waterstones. I basically finished this in one sitting, and I really, really liked it!
  • Ballet Shoes, Noel Streatfeild: I loved the movie adaptation of this book, and I’d already bought the ebook, but I just really wanted a physical copy as well – and look how pretty it is! (link leads to the Book Depository)
  • Dancing Shoes, Noel Streatfeild: as I said above, I loved Ballet Shoes, so I was quite curious to the other ‘Shoes-books’ – I liked this one quite a lot, although not as much as Ballet Shoes, so I’m really happy I bought it!
  • Heidi, Johanna Spyri: this book, too, I’d already read, but I just really wanted a physical version of my own (the one our library has is an abridged version, and the one I used to have has mysteriously disappeared, so, you know…)
  • The Next Together, Lauren James: I’ve heard quite a lot of good things about this book, so I’m really looking forward to seeing what I think about it – the premises seems really promising, at least.
  • This Is What Happy Looks Like, Jennifer E. Smith: another book where I already had the ebook, but I like to have books I really liked on my shelves – meaning I definitely needed a physical copy of this one…
  • Charlotte’s Web, E.B. White: I’ve never actually read this children’s classic, so I’m really looking forward to seeing what all the fuss is about 🙂
  • Stuart Little, E.B. WHite: same story as the above: heard a lot about it, but never seen the movie or actually read the book, so I figured I might as well buy it…
  • The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight, Jennifer E. Smith: I just really love Jennifer E. Smith’s work, okay? And I didn’t actually have any actual books of her yet, so I just sort of went for it…
W.H. Smith, Victoria Station, London
  • We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves, Karen Joy Fowler: I didn’t really like The Jane Austen Book Club all that much, but I heard a lot of good things about this one, and the premises seemed really interesting, so I just bought it (+ it was part of a “buy 2, get 1 free” deal)
  • The Undomestic Goddess, Sophie Kinsella: I quite like most of her books, but this is probably the only one that I actually want to re-read (and have already re-read a couple of times), so when I saw this as part of the same “buy 2, get 1 free” deal, I figured I might as well buy it
  • I Am the Messenger:, Markus Zusak: I seriously loved The Book Thief
(it hurt me in all the best possible ways), so I’ve been pretty curious to his other work, but they didn’t have any in my library – so again: quite the opportunity 🙂
  • I Was Here, Gayle Forman: I really liked If I Stayand Where She Went, so this is another one I’m really looking forward to reading.
  • I’ll Give You the Sun, Jandy Nelson: another one I’d heard quite a lot about – this really seems to be the month of “why not”-book buying, doesn’t it?
Second hand book store, Canterbury
  • Secret Seven; Secret Seven Win Through; Secret Seven on the Trail; Good Work, Secret Seven; Puzzle for the Secret Seven and Secret Seven Adventure, Enid Blyton: I collect her books, basically – I hope to one day own them all, and if nothing else: at least right now, I’m on my way to that 🙂
  • The Secret Island and The Secret Mountain: also by Enid Blyton, but part of a different series
  • That Summer, Sarah Dessen: I enjoyed most of the books I’ve read by Sarah Dessen, and this was only £1, so there was no way I wasn’t going to buy it
  • Rose in Bloom, Louisa May Alcott: another author whose work I am slowly collecting – although I’ve got a much longer way to go with Alcott than I do with Enid Blyton
  • White Boots, Noel Streatfeild: this was another book they actually had at Waterstones, but I’d given myself a limit of how many books I could buy there, and this one just didn’t make the cut – so I was quite happy when I found it in this store for £0.50 🙂
And that’s it! Those are all the books I bought in September (29 in total) – I’m not counting my books for school though, because I haven’t gotten them all yet, so I’ll probably just do those in next month’s book haul…
